A SERIOUS SURVIVOR
In the wilds of South Africa, large plants do survive the winter frosts by growing dense enough to provide their own natural cover. Drought-tolerant and fire-resistant, it will endure desert sun and heat once established, which the jade plant will not. Cuttings root very easily in most potting media.

An Angolan Giraffe from Northern Nambia, Africa- compliments of the World Wildlife Fund. Gone are the Blue Footed Booby couple who accompanied me through March. She/He adorns the April page of the calendar that hangs right in back of my laptop.

Five neighborhood errands Done in only three hours,

The battered orchid sprouted a new leaf from it's center!
It started out beautifully when I rescued it
 
Then
It deteriorated and leaves split.
Consulted a site and followed protocol:
Knock all the old soil off, cut dead roots,

Hydrate for a week so far and may re-pot soon

It is capable of either C₃ or CAM carbon fixation, depending on factors such as the season and the age of the leaves.
