I have had an affinity for animals all my life.
Something of the animal nature in me
responds to the animal nature in them.
They have been my solace, and my teachers.
E. B. White had a similar affinity.
Returning to his stories is returning to my kinship,
and serves as relief in these dark days.

enjoyed reading the article about White. Charlotte' Web was always one of my favorites and i think i probably have his 'Elements of Style' someplace on a bookshelf. for some reason, this all reminded me of Jung talking to his pots and pans.
Deanna-Intriguing comment-would love to have a reference to Jung's talking to his pots and pans. Can you add on?
gee...it was so long ago but i'll look through some of my books and see if i can find it.
well, i looked through several books and did some research online but cannot find it. i think i might have read it in Miguel Serrano's book about Hesse and Jung. i thought i had that book but can't find it. it also might have been in 'The Portable Jung' which was lent to a friend but never found its way back to me. i'll keep it in mind and if i come across it, i will update you.
ok. i found it. it's in the book C. G. Jung & Hermann Hesse A Record of Two Friendships by Miguel Serrano (i knew i had the book somewhere). Miss Ruth Bailey tells Serrano about some rites that Jung performs. Jung considered his pots, pans and cooking utensils his friends so he always greeted them. this appears on page 98 of the book. i will e-mail you the page. i'm so glad you asked about this because now i see i must read some of this all over again.
Thanks. I'll look through the email and read later. Perhaps a post script having to do with a Jung-E.B White-"Charlotte's Web" connection, if I see it. I'm already thinking of spider webs-a poem of mine with that image uses as metaphor for the World Wide Web kind of communication-and the second post I posted today to celebrate the 'Birthday; of the WWW. See how things evolve from nothing but a walk uptown on a sultry Friday night to feed a friend's cats?
Aha! Here is the poem-
Virtually Like Being Alive
by Ms
ITS ALMOST LIKE BEING ALIVE
IN THE REAL WORLD
IN MY SKIN
IN THIS APARTMENT
SITTING AT THIS KEYBOARD
FINGERS DEPRESSING
THE KEYS OF OUR ALPHABET-
ITS ALMOST LIKE LIFE
LIVING LIKE THIS
APART FROM THE OTHERS
REACHING OUT
COMMUNICATING
ON A CLOUD OF CLOUD COMMERCE
IN THE NET
FLOATING OUT
ON THE AIR OF WORLD WIDE
WEBBING-
I AM ARACHNID
NO LONGER HUMAN
BEING-
A SPIDER SWINGING
TO THE NEXT CONNECTION
SWINGING BACK
TO MY START POINT
MAKING POINTS CONNECT-
STICKY AS MUCOUS MY SILKEN THREAD
OF THOUGHT
SHOUTING
IN CAPITALS
CONNECTING BEYOND THE DEEP
PERSONAL SILENCE-
and the post where it appeared-
http://mscomfortzone.blogspot.com/2011/06/virtually-like-being-alive.html
that connects this post, through it's comments to the next post about the web's birthday-
I'm shutting down for today.
See you tomorrow.
Expect a miracle.
Count on nothing.
Be content.
great poem; great metaphor.
everything is a miracle.
i live in the moment.
i am ecstatic.
looking back I saw that last comment as if for the first time...so I just want to add in an "I love you."
