Miracles Of The Meer
by Ms.

From weedy mire, two-
a she egret, and he, who
partners with her, rise
up into the city skies.
We, watching, soon concur,
their mutual elegance shows
in flights poetic prose.
Circling heavy Harlem air,
a dance, a rapture fair,
morning and night, a song
of wings that can transform
the mundane to magnificent,
jaded souls to innocence.

Lone Egret
by Kathleen McCann

Classically stagy, goose-neck
elegant, river’s third eye.
Pencil thin head. S for a throat.

Skeleton of a saint.
Plodder, preening posturer.
One foot, another.
Up from the dank weeds.

lovely poem. it amazes me that central park is such a haven. the egret has a marvelous sense of step.

some days I wish I had the wings of an egret.
