Spirit Muse Sunday SPIRIT HAS GONE NORTH AND TAKEN ME WITH IT

Spirit Muse
I'm leaving you with this little gift in hope it entertains you. I wish you all a happy holiday and bright new year until we meet again in 2012.

It Happened on Fifth Avenue
1947
The bare bones premise of this  enjoyable, little known holiday flick is - Aloyisius T. McKeever (Victor Moore), a New York City hobo, makes his home in a boarded-up Fifth Avenue mansion, using the back door, while its owner, multi-millionaire ("the second richest man in the world") Michael J. O'Connor (Charles Ruggles), winters in the South.  What ensues is amusing, heartwarming, and not without
a pointed note
highlighting class disparities.
Critiques at the time of it's release are many, but this one from Time Magazine stands out for me "Most plausible explanations for the picture's success are: 1) the presence of Victor Moore, past master of creaky charm and pathos; 2) a show as generally old fashioned, in a harmless way, as a 1910 mail-order play for amateurs; 3) the fact that now, as in 1910, a producer cannot go wrong with a mass audience if he serves up a whiff of comedy and a whirlwind of hokum,"

So, here it is in all it's vintage
black and white film finery:
