SUNDAY WALK

East 21st to 14th Street
South along 2nd Avenue...
 turned East, passed the Town and Village Synagogue...
 passed the Church of the Immaculate Conception...
 (detail)
 then North over cobblestones along Avenue D...
to the East River walk...
saw many Seagulls, here's one...
with three Cormorants...
 and another gull...
bathing in the sundown...
plus this singularly pretty pigeon.
 Saw a beautiful beetle in the waving grass...
 Mounds of Asters...
 (detail)
 Goldenrod too...
and Sage.
 ~*~

Stared long into the river,
thoughts drifting...
 Why write what one thinks;
why is the sky blue?
Admittedly, I want responses;
conversation optimally.
Living is a lonely business;
to each her own.
Infirmities are daunting;
and the pay is bad.
Sometimes the food is good;
often sleep arrives.

Everything is ephemeral,
so there's the rub.

I won't refer to rose thorns,
nor bramble bush.

Perhaps It is enough.  Stop;
language is overrated.
 West on East 23rd Street to Home
with mementos in hand.

I used to make walks like that when I was living in the city. I was too young to pay such attention to the place, it was always the people but I never made a single friend while I was there. It was alien country.

ah Deb...I loved the solitude Sunday it was just what I needed, though often it's people I concentrate on, and then I speak to everyone.

wish we could take a walk together -- I would agree with you about life being a lonely business and then argue about the utility of words.

I smiled at the pigeon, remembering your one-legged friend from some time ago.

these are some of your most beautiful photos ever. I recognize that startlingly blue sky -- we've been having so many beautiful days this fall that the rain over the weekend seemed almost weird. The asters and goldenrod just sing together.
