SEVENTY FOURTH YEAR

The rescued file cabinet has fallen apart.
Drawers and boxes are now neatly stacked nearby.

Synapses connecting to details from bloody birth through tragic early losses, stumbling adolescence, talented teen triumphs coupled with emotional ignorance, and on into the prolonged search for self and decades long struggle to survive have fired up, delivering vivid scenes from a stereoscopic recording lodged in the gentle folds of memory.  In dreams and waking moments they appear as flashes of light behind old eyes unclouded thanks to their new 'miracle' lenses.

Compassionate understanding courses through my veins.
Gratitude regulates my heartbeat.

Happy Birthday Michelle. Knowing that today is your day has brought me the balance that I needed and quiet joy given the political reality of this day. Knowing that you stand tall, wise woman wordsmith, gives me hope. From John O'Donohue, a few words of blessing for you on this day:

"May the light of your soul guide you.
May the light of your soul bless the work you do with the secret love and warmth of your heart.
May you see in what you do, the beauty of your own soul..."

Anam Cara, A book of Celtic Wisdom by John O' Donohue

Dear Michelle, I loved reading this -- changed but unchanged.

Wishing you a Happy Birthday and everyone and everything that makes you happy. Love to you.

(Realized a connection sort of, my sister turned 73 on the 16th -- are you Capricorn or Aquarius?)

Dearest,

I see the original innocence in a beautiful baby girl, decked out in her baptismal gown, on the day you became a "priest, prophet and king." How lovely you still are, making light of life's scrapes! Many, many more!

Love,
The Archangel

Have a friend in Toronto and guess what: "when i told the guy from the llama rescue place it is your birthday today. well get this: he said he gave the llama your name, in honour of your birthday!!! so the llama is officially named the following: "Michelle beauty honey hoofed” --what a wonderful day…its your birthday and the world of friends celebrate with you…both two legged and four legged!!"

Birthday UPSte. I did this blog post to honor that fact, monitored all the live streams of events in DC till I needed a nap, and received lovely good wishes from friends both actual and virtual. To cap it off a dear friend took me for a delicious meal at a new local Indian spot and a lovely walk and talk around Gramercy park. It's been a fine day. I'm ready to go on with the work of caring Citizenship. See you at the NYC March tomorrow.
