ANOTHER DAY PASSES

Constitutional around Gramercy Park
What used to take me twenty minutes now takes two hours, accompanied by my cane.
 A Second Encounter with "Lost Lady"
This time no bus was involved. I reminded her we met yesterday. It didn't seem to register but she asked where Lexington Avenue was. I took her hand and as we walked, asked her where she sleeps. Without hesitation she said "I sleep with Jesus." So we walked on hand in hand to the end of the block.  She asked where we were and I told her Lexington Avenue. Then she wanted to know where the post office was so we crossed to the other side when she asked again. I pointed down the block and realized she had no idea where she was going really. I was shaky then, running low on stamina, and so I left her to ply her way 'wherever', and turned back.

Home Again
Teddy sits in the light while I heat up my left leg poultice, and strap on the ice pack for my swollen right ankle. He's considering what it means to be a lost thing I think.

What is lost anyway?

All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.

From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be the blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king

Limited walking distance and a cane. I can relate to that. And all
of us Slow Walkers recognize and take care of each other...the surprise
blessing in disability.

Michelle, your kindness, the beauty of what you give us on your walks, how you get out, no matter what, taking it all in,going as best as you can. This is something that you do so well and share so well with all of us.

Michelle, sending my love to you, wish I could make you a pot of nice healing bone broth and maybe some steamed nettles and we could just sit together. With our feet up, of course.
