Stuyvesant Park
'In 1836 Peter Gerard Stuyvesant (1778-1847) and his wife Helen Rutherford reserved four acres of the family farm and sold it for five dollars to the City of New York as a public park. This remarkable gift may have been the most ambitious gesture of Peter Gerard Stuyvesant, the co-founder of the New York Historical Society and one of the richest men in America at his time. A public park in a rapidly expanding city was a priceless amenity. The creation of Stuyvesant Square was the catalyst to the development of an exceptional district within which Stuyvesant’s spirit still thrives."

GIFTS of LIGHT

Friday Night
There is not much so curative
as a visit from a compatible friend.
Easy conversations, 'food' swapping:
my wheat for his lemonade,
His wittiness for my laughter, my variety of concoctions
for his willingness to make use of them.
Lots of classical music, talk of the classics, and truths;
we read Barbara's poem "Three Laments".
Teas: two 'sleepytime' + two 'breathe easy',
sweetened by Stevia and steeped.
Sharing 'the unbearable lightness of being'
without ever calling it that.
We watched

Saturday
Made these Berry wine cordials by soaking wine with berries and spice for months, drained and bottled it for gifts today. I can not drink alcohol.
Doodled
"Twisted Rainbow"
However
My chronic condition was super bad today and no comfort for the left leg either so I took a walk with my cane.  Totally unstable and no ability to stand still in drizzley rain but I like the shot anyhow.

So it goes

Sunday
Aside from short sleeps, my Rx for CC, and a hot compress for the leg, music, a bit of broth and toast, nothing much. The old lady is still sick; so much so, I fear to alienate friends who call to say 'How are you', being tempted to say 'fine' . Of course I ask how they are and perhaps I'm told.  I'm not even up for company if any were available. One fairly close by friend has offered.  I don't want to chat on the phone. Everything takes twice as much energy as one thinks it might. Careful, 'You are quite grumpy' my inner therapist says. This is my fifteenth or so wake up from the aching let to heat the compress again and down another glass of "CALM".  I meant to post this at 10PM yesterday but it's already Monday morning. I 'want' to think this too will pass, and since everything does it will, but I don't believe it will be a return to well woman old age.  'It's the illness talking' my therapist says, 'don't listen'.  The rash has just flared up again all over my face too. Poor me.  Such darkness! I'm going to mine some old photos for light:

the words of which are all true, and which I also posted at face book.

WINTER or SPRING? WHAT'S TRUE?

The shadow knows.

Can anyone really discover the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth?
(Bus-stop Signage from The New York Times)

Just a few days before on the altar at the Zendo the simple truth of this single flower.

While walking home Wednesday, a balmy evening, these Lenten Rose were blooming behind a fence announcing Spring truthfully.

Body Truth
I've been laid up in bed since Friday when the temperature plunged from 70 to 19 degrees.  My chronic condition, diagnosed in July of 2016 (see link if you wish details), rose up and attacked, so I'm feasting on white rice and broth, and even resorted to an over the counter medication that may put things back in order.  I've been treating it with just a fiber free diet recommended by the Mayo clinic and, for the most part it's been okay.  But now and then it flares. Sleep, of course, is my first defense.

Sunday Concert
This will be true if I am recovered enough to accept the gift my friend Michael, a participating member of the Chorale, has secured for me:

"Seeing Double: Music for Double Choir"
The concert's centerpiece--20th-century Swiss composer Frank Martin’s luminously beautiful, at-times insanely challenging, and rarely performed Mass for Double Choir a cappella. It was an intensely personal work for the composer--alternately grand and intimate, and powerful and pleading. Featured pieces will also include selections from Felix Mendelssohn's Drei Psalmen (op. 78) and Dreamscape, a lush, haunting and ethereal setting of the words of Edgar Allan Poe, by our Artistic Director Colin Britt.

For DAYS i THOUGHT it was FRIDAY

But first came Wednesday when, because they are soon closing forever like so many businesses that have been priced out of their locations, I purchased, thanks to a kind neighbor who loaned money, extra RAMs for my struggling and beloved Mac Laptop.
Dropping it off before a session at the Zendo where lovely orchids adorn the altar, and picking it up after.
Thinking of friends up there on the fifth floor, I Shot this view of Dharma Mitra's Yoga Center across the street from the bus stop until the bus whisked me home.
 ~*~

Soon it was Thursday, and this oil soaked driver delivering to a luxury building on 23rd Street was smoking.  Nearby door men were commenting on the dangers of that as I moved forward and away at a brisk pace...
heading for CVS which has a camera pointed at the entrance doors...
so I took the opportunity for this screen 'selfie' I rather like since it makes me look like a blue garden gnome and/or an abstract painting.
In the mail today, a postcard from a friend depicts the last remaining narrow-gauge Railway Depot in Ohio.  He helped raise funds for the restoration of it, then he and his Mother went to a rabbit show at the County Fair.  How refreshing, and so other-than the world I receive and absorb from my various media sources shattering contrived calm: Fatal shootings of black men by Police, Police killed by sniper during protest march in Dallas, Terrible Massacre in Nice on Bastille day, Attempted Coup in Turkey, Ongoing world wide refugee crisis, Starvation in Brazil, Trouble in the Congo, Fires, Floods and Droughts, Land grabs in every City and Country, Disappearing species, and the outrageous circus of our own shameful Presidential campaign.
 ~*~

Finally, it  did become Friday.  I mounted the cross town bus again heading to a doctor appointment, and noted this homeless dog for the second day in a row...
reminding me of our friend Joe Madi's lovely and well loved "Bodhi",  vowing to go on foot to find the young man and get his story when I have figured out if, and how I might offer help beyond a few coins.

At my Broadway and 23rd stop a pause...
to admire plantings in Madison Square park
before turning downtown on Fifth Avenue,
with one more pause to record the ordinary 'fashions' of a hot day in our not always so fair City.
Arriving at the reception desk of Dr. Eng as scheduled...
spending an hour or so in the cool of air conditioning while filling forms, registering and waiting to be seen.  A look over my charts, a few gentle pushes on my belly, a thoughtful discussion, and I'm scheduled for a colonoscopy Tuesday morning, given the prep-liquids and released back to the Street.
Onward then, down Fifth to the Farmers market on 14th street where I made a few purchases of organic vegetables to cook and eat or store before my liquid fast begins on Monday, and the most desired item of bee pollen and honey paste "Elixer" to cheer me.

Overhead, a crowded sky suggests rain.

This beautiful tattooed woman crossed my path.

I waved to the police grimly preparing for duty.  When I told one my Father was a cop, he smiled and relaxed.  It's going to be a stressful night for them too.
Shoving my camera in between the wrought iron fence bars of Gramercy Park for one last shot.

Later in the evening I began remembering all the questions I had forgotten to ask, and was assaulted by a gripping anxiety attack, having foolishly searched the web for answers, only to read all the possible complications of what is, for the vast majority of clients, a safe and successful procedure.  Sleepless despite my best intentions, I wrote:

The Doctor Visit

Afterward the questions flooded
High tidal wave instead of sleep
"What are you afraid of?"  Not a peep
Now inquiry pours out of me - silently

This morning early I finally passed out from exhaustion and woke in the early afternoon feeling fine.  Cooked, listened to music, organized up my medical file, spent some time on Face book, answered emails, ate well and finished this post. Now I'll meditate into Sunday.
