Feather Muse Friday ECONOMICS - LIVING ON THE EDGE

Feather Muse

Hummingbirds
Equipped to meet that challenge,
they are some of the toughest,
most energetic creatures on the planet.
Their unique flying abilities give them
unmatched maneuverability,
at the cost of a supercharged metabolism
that keeps them on the edge of survival.

Oh hummingbird,
mankind was waiting for you
to come flying along.
Heavenly songbird, we were so wrong
We've harmed you.
Oh hummingbird, lend us your wings.
Let us soar in the atmosphere of Abha.
Lift us up to the heaven of holiness,
oh source of our being, oh hummingbird.
Hummingbird don't fly away, fly away.
Hummingbird don't fly away, fly away.
In you I've found a fragrance.
I'll love you 'til I die.
I just love you, love you, love you.
I don't even know the reason why.
Hummingbird don't fly away, fly away.
Hummingbird don't fly away, fly away.
The sweetness of your nectar
has drawn me like a fly.
I just love you, love you, love you.
I don't even know the reason why. Now,
Hummingbird don't fly away, fly away.
Hummingbird don't fly away, fly away.
Haven't you noticed the days
somehow keep getting longer?
And the spirit voices whisper in us all.
Haven't you noticed the rays?
The spirit sun in stronger
And a new day is dawning for us all.
Hummingbird don't fly away, fly away.
Hummingbird don't fly away, fly away.
Hummingbird don't fly away, fly away.
Hummingbird don't fly away, fly away.
At last there is a gardener
come to till the flowers.
The dawn of understanding;
wisdom, peace and love is ours.
Hummingbird don't fly away, fly away.
Hummingbird don't fly away, fly away.

love the hummingbirds. so much energy packed into that small body. i believe they're the only birds that can fly backwards. always used to watch them out of my kitchen window but not too many came my way this year.

I've only ever seen Hummingbirds in the city in The Botanical Gardens, though they might visit some protected urban gardens. I've seen many in Massachusetts. They are really such apparitions, such delights, such miraculous creatures! I did a post with a poem about me and my friend in it involving such an apparition, you might remember it--
back in August--http://mscomfortzone.blogspot.com/2011/08/spirit-muse-sunday-starlings-feathers.html

the hummingbirds are attracted to the salvia in my front yard as well as the mealy blue sage.

I've peppered the church garden with plenty of salvia in many varieties, as well as lots and lots of plants that are supposed to attract both hummingbirds and butterflies--it's a plot laid back, and up on a semi-protected plaza, but near a very busy thoroughfare. I think the little hummers are craftier about where they choose to spend their energy (I would be too). I get butterflies, but less this year than others--a product of the general weather stresses all creatures suffered this year on the planat, I think.

We have a feeder right outside the living room window. They love it. The female sits and enjoys a log drink, while the males zoom around trying to claim it as their own. At least that is how my friend explained their behavior!
I would love to have plants that attract!
