I am more inclined to think of it as 'the ingredients'. The ingredients are there, but the recipe reveals itself in time--ingredients are added to, and some are subtracted. So the recipe is on ongoing project that lasts throughout a lifetime.
Ah, I see an 'outline' as an idea of what may come, open for adding, subtracting or altering. A step towards growth.
