"CLEOPATRA" TONIGHT--INDIGO TOMORROW

"In a masterly return to the classical sources, Stacy Schiff boldly separates fact from fiction to rescue the magnetic Queen
whose death ushered in a new world order."

I'm currently listening to the audio book "Cleopatra" (a 12 CD set just borrowed from the New York Public Library for three weeks), which enables me to do art work, sewing, sorting and many other tasks simultaneously. So far, I'm enjoying it immensely.
Though I have no quarrel with the readers excellent delivery of text, I would have preferred a darker vocal tone.
(note that as simply personal preference).

"Cleopatra mythologized herself before anyone else had the chance. Roman contemporaries misread the pageants she acted out; early biographers were biased, xenophobic, politically motivated and sometimes sensationalistic, writing for an audience that expected to be dazzled by intrigues reflecting its assumptions. It’s dizzying to contemplate the thicket of prejudices, personalities and propaganda Schiff penetrated to reconstruct a woman whose style, ambition and audacity make her a subject worthy of her latest biographer. After all, Stacy Schiff’s writing
is distinguished by those very same virtues."

I listened to this book last spring and thoroughly enjoyed it. Cleopatra was quite a woman.
