AN AUSPICIOUS BIRTHDAY

A Sixtieth Year celebration with candles lit upon a fabulous cake, counted out by esoteric Malaysian calculation, and taking forever to light in the hot Summer breeze.
The poet exhibited uncustomary wordless delight
extinguishing all but one candle on the first try.
Then that one too.
We all managed to eat at least a piece, plus blueberry pie and drunk strawberries, despite our supper of marinated barbecued drumsticks, guacamole, cucumber/dill raita, black bean and other dips, to-die-for beet salad, succulent squashes, cheeses, cold cuts, chips, breads, curried or spiced Asian dishes and a preponderance of wine, beer and water.
Both guests and hosts were as generous, varied,
surprising, entertaining and engaging as the feast.
Busy having fun, I took only a few pictures
while the lush garden sent it's blooming good-will messages by
interjecting intermittent fragrances into the conversations.
(Belancanda Chinsis)
.
Sometimes shouting
(Echinacea)
Sometimes whispering
(Balloon flower)
What we spoke of to one another across those many happy hours, only the changeable wind retains, and can be counted upon for it's discretion.
