CONSIDERATIONS

"Consider today the 85 generations of people who have carried the Zen teachings in their unique way to you. How does that impact your attitude towards your practice?"

(The Zendo after a group sitting)

"Consider the 85 generations of your family who have carried DNA across continents and each expressing in their individual way. How does that awareness impact you?"

(sign that hangs by the door in my hall)

"Consider all the people you see today by realizing that they too are dependent on thousands of generations before them. How does that change the way you look at them?"

Hmmm. I have seen so many bad things lately as society slowly deteriorates around me that I'm finding it difficult to see any improvement in humanity over time...I think I need a change of scenery/country. It is comforting to know that you manage to keep your peace of mind and thoughtfulness in tact...I will try to do the same. Thank you...
best, nadia

Dear Nadia--I am fortunate in that I have a Zendo with many others to go to, and Zen practice with brilliant teachers, and that over decades I have been exposed to and enriched by many Buddhist, Pagan and Christian practitioners and teachers. Without my meager practice and all these riches to dip into, well, the world as it is would surely overwhelm me entirely. Whenever I get stuck in my all too human dark well of suffering, I have this wider perspective to pull upon like a rope that hauls me up to light. I know your own situation is very hard right now. I'm sending you love and this link to some talks that might interest you where two main teachers and some visiting teachers podcasts are available for listening http://zencare.org/zentalk/
